Samenvatting 12 rules for life

12 rules of life – Peterson

  1. Stand up straight – lobsters are more likely to win fights if they stand up straight. Standing up straight says I want to join the dominance hierarchy. It shows I can handle being open to the world.
  2. take care of yourself – Treat yourself as someone you are willing to be helping and that matters; as someone you love.
  3. Make friends – that help you be better and stay away from those that drag you down.
  4.  Compare yourself to who you were yesterday not to someone else – someone else is only a moment, comparing yourself to yesterday and try to be better in tomorrow in a small way.
  5. Don’t Let Your Children Do Anything That Makes You Dislike Them – you are not perfect and will get angry and ashamed about your child. Never lie to your children or yourself.
  6. Set you house in perfect order before you criticize the world – only then can you give good advice.
  7. Pursue what is meaningful – when you are engaged you are in between chaos and order. Meaningful is the feeling right place, right time.  When did you get that feeling? What did you do? Try to do it again.
  8. Tell the truth or at least don’t lie –
  9. Assume everyone knows something you don’t
  10. Be precise in your speech, don’t be cryptic so others can understand
  11. Let children play, allow being to be as they are instead of as they should be
  12. Pet a cat when you can. Share goodness when you feel good.
